APARTMENT ASSOCIATION OF NORTHEAST WISCONSIN, INC. THE AANW IS A NON-PROFIT WHOSE MISSION IS TO SUPPORT AND FACILITATE ITS MEMBERS’ SUCCESS IN ETHICAL RENTAL PROPERTY OWNERSHIP, PROPERTY MANAGEMENT, AND REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT, THROUGH LEADERSHIP, EDUCATION, AND SUPPORT OF THE GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS NEEDS OF THE RENTAL PROPERTY INDUSTRY IN WISCONSIN |
Advocating at the local, state and federal levels of government is a year-round effort, not just during the legislative session. Our Legislative Committee monitors pending issues and or movements at each level of government that would have a negative effect on the rental housing industry in Wisconsin, working collaboratively with other housing associations to ensure that the best interests of owners, managers, investors and our resident/customers, are being considered when legislation is introduced.
In 2024 you will see a welcome, albeit in the past this has been missing, addition to our legislative lobbying efforts to also include a Grass Roots Advocacy framework model that will only serve to strengthen the legislative/lobbying that is currently being done at the state level. More will come out on this as the year unfolds, but for now, understand that a key component of this will involve a "consistency of message" theme that will serve to enhance the breadth and depth of the communication we want to make our legislators aware of.
There are numerous proposals/ideas each year at the local, state and federal level that would challenge in many cases the very existence of rental property owners, property managers, and real estate investors. Currently, in part because not all the stakeholders who should be involved in solutioning housing related issues are a part of this process. Many of these proposals/ideas are also detrimental to our Customers/Residents and in many ways will do more harm than good to the very group of beneficiaries that these legislative proposals were intended to help.
We all need to keep working hard to educate everyone on how a “Grass Roots Advocacy and Legislative/Lobbying” framework model is the direction we should be heading in and adopting as soon as possible. This is truly the “missing piece” that to-date, none of the housing associations in the State has adopted, developed, and deployed across their member base. Done properly, this will benefit the entire rental housing industry, owners, managers, investors and our Customers/Residents.
