In this 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act article, the author lays out what this legislation does, and equally important, what it does not do. In short, yes, it does establish a foundational reform in addressing Affordable Housing Policy, but now the real work must begin.
Members who have been attending our monthly meetings this year, will note that since April, we have purposely modified our State of the Industry presentation to call out what only a Supply-Side solution to this affordability crisis will do to margins on existing housing. We expand this to discuss the impact this will have on a number of decisions owners and managers will have to make, and the related impact this will have on neighborhoods and communities across the state.
Please remember that we have yet to see an article, blog post, podcast or presentation published by anyone, that frames this in a manner that includes the concerns we have been raising since April in our own State of the Industry presentation. We continue to share this concern with our local, state and federal legislators to foster meaningful, comprehensive discussions that can address the issues that ALL Stakeholders involved in housing are facing.
Lastly, please note that the State of the Industry presentation, which we created and began using in early 2024, continues to be modified and kept both current and relevant. The latest version of this will be shared in August during our monthly meetings.
This article, while it misses the points mentioned above, like all the others we have seen regarding solutions for affordable housing, does do a nice job of establishing what the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act does do, and the foundation that it establishes, is linked below:
